What is Massage Therapy?
The practice of Massage therapy is the assessment of the soft tissue and joints of the body and the treatment and prevention of physical dysfunction and pain of the soft tissue and joints by manipulation to develop, maintain, rehabilitate or augment physical function, or relieve pain.Massage Therapy is a regulated health care profession governed by the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario.
Massage therapists have completed 2-3 years of health science, therapeutic Massage and remedial exercise training.
What is a Registered Massage Therapist (R.M.T.)?
To practice as a Registered Massage Therapist in Ontario, an individual must complete a minimum 2200-hour course at a government approved massage therapy school and successfully pass provincial certification exams.After meeting the CMTO’s standards, the individual becomes a member of the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA) and can legally practice in Ontario.
Areas of study include Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology, Assessment, Clinical studies, Treatments, Remedial Exercise, Neurology, Systems Anatomy, Pathophysiology, Kinesiology, Nutrition, Business, Research, and ethics.
